A Study on the Effectiveness of Bilingual Education in Enhancing Students' Language Development in Kuwait
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study investigates the effectiveness of bilingual education in enhancing students' language development in Kuwait. A sample of 100 students from a bilingual school in Kuwait was selected, with Arabic and English as the two languages of instruction. The participants were divided into two groups, with one group receiving instruction in both languages, and the other group receiving instruction in Arabic only. Language tests were administered to both groups at the beginning and end of the academic year, and surveys were distributed to students, teachers, and parents. The results indicated that students in the bilingual group showed significantly greater progress in their language development than those in the Arabic-only group. Both teachers and parents perceived bilingual education as an effective method for enhancing language development. The findings suggest that policymakers in Kuwait should consider promoting bilingual education in schools to enhance language development and foster a multilingual society.
